Olufemi Soneye has announced his decision to step down from his role as the chief corporate communications officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).

Soneye, who assumed the position 20 months ago, expressed deep gratitude to his team and professional associates, crediting them for their support, dedication, and collective effort in building a vibrant and effective communications arm within the national energy giant.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you all for the unwavering support, professionalism, and genuine commitment you’ve shown in helping to shape and amplify the NNPC Ltd story,” he wrote. “Your role in building a vibrant and effective communications presence for our national energy company has been nothing short of invaluable.”

In his farewell note, Soneye stated that his decision to step aside is driven by the need to focus more on personal responsibilities and spend quality time with family.

“This decision will allow me to devote more time to my family and attend to personal responsibilities that now require my closer presence,” he said.

He described his service to NNPC Ltd and Nigeria as a “profound honour,” and expressed appreciation for the trust placed in him throughout his tenure.

“I am deeply grateful for the trust reposed in me, the opportunities granted, and the incredible professionals both within and outside the organisation with whom I have worked,” he noted.

Soneye pledged his continued support for NNPC Ltd, emphasising his commitment to remain an ambassador of the company.

He urged his colleagues in the media and communications field to maintain their efforts in delivering balanced, constructive, and impactful reportage that supports the company’s mission and strategic importance in Nigeria’s energy landscape.

“I remain a steadfast supporter and ambassador of NNPC Ltd wherever I go,” he added. “I enjoin you, dear colleagues, to continue your robust, balanced, and constructive reportage in support of the Company’s noble mission and strategic role in Nigeria’s energy future.”
