Lagos to host summit on urban development

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to convey a stakeholders summit to address challenges of physical planning in the state.

The Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning, Mukaila Sanusi, in a statement issued on Saturday, said the summit will afford stakeholders the opportunities to engage the government in areas of sustainable planning and development.

“In a bid to explore the challenges and opportunities facing the state as it strives to become a smart megacity, the Lagos State Government will organise a landmark physical planning summit,” he said.

According to him, the summit slated for October 15 and 16 in Lagos, “is proposed to proffer solutions to teething challenges as well as create a forum for stakeholders to rub ideas on making Lagos physical planning space work.”

“The summit, which has been tagged ‘Lagos, Africa’s Model Mega City: Issues and Prospects,” will aim to provide solutions for effective governance and policy frameworks for physical planning.

“Some of the key issues that will be addressed include the following: urbanization and its impacts on physical planning, Innovative approaches to physical planning and urban design, stakeholders’ engagement and participation in development plans

“Sustainable development strategies for a resilient Lagos and effective governance and policy frameworks for physical planning are also areas to be explored.

“The summit promises to be a groundbreaking event, offering a unique opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the development of a comprehensive physical planning framework for Lagos State,” he said.
